WTM 100 and WTA 250 wind turbine cranes by Mammoet will have capacity of 100 & 250 metric tonnes

Any existing problems with the turbine assembly should be definitely eliminated. The new equipment made by Mammoet promises to make their construction and maintenance safer and much more effective.

Wind energy’s considered to be the best alternative to the traditional energy resources. It is cost-effective and productive. That’s why the construction of turbines is a big issue in the modern world. In order to enlarge the amount of the wind energy production, the wind turbines become higher and larger. Such tendency has an impact on the maintenance of such constructions.

Understanding the current problems, Mammoet decided to present the new efficient equipment for the windmill maintenance and assembly. They’ve recently presented 2 heavy lift cranes manufactured especially for the wind towers. One of the machinery types is created for their construction, while the other one is for their support.

Mammoet: general information about the firm

Mammoet is a company, which works in the transportation industry. It was founded over 200 years ago. It is known as one of the leading companies, which helps the customer improve the efficiency of construction and optimize installation processes. They provide the following services:

  • site-wide construction
  • relocation and decommission
  • lifting services
  • cargo transportation
  • installation of the over-sized and heavy-weight components, etc.

The firm works in various directions:

  • power generation
  • civil engineering
  • petrochemical
  • off-shore
  • mining, etc.

Mammoet has the impressive experience and quite a big fleet of heavy transporters. They have offices and partners all over the globe.

The key features of the equipment

WTA 250 modification is planned to be used for the building of turbines. The machinery is made together with the MECAL (a well-known engineering corporation), the specialists of which are responsible the new windmill turbine design. The turbine will be placed in the guiderail. The tower of the turbine will be applied as a support in order to lift another section. As soon as the section’s mounted and a guiderail fitted, the machinery will be able to repeat the procedure and install the next section. After the construction is finished, the guide rail can be either removed or left for the further expansion of the windmill. The capacity of this model is claimed to reach 250 tonnes, while the height of lifting has no limits.

The second model is called WTM 100. It’ll be applied in order to provide the maintenance of the wind turbine. The principle of this machinery work is similar to the first modification. The equipment’s connected to the 2 hoisting eyes (which are preinstalled). Thus, the machinery is able to pull itself and load up along the wind turbine with the support of the wind tower. The equipment has special claws, which can wrap around the construction to stay firm. The modification’s capacity totals 100,000 kg. For the application of the model, only hoisting eyes should be preinstalled. Thus, the minimal modification is required.

The advantages of the machinery

One of the most significant benefits of the new equipment is its compact size. They might be easily placed into 2 standard containers for the transportation. Besides, they can be moved by means of just 2 trailers. Thus, they are characterized by the mobility, which makes them a good alternative for the conventional equipment. According to the Mammoet’s director, such pieces of machinery will be able to eliminate the height limitations and make the construction process cost-effective and fast.

Another advantage of the new models is their safety. They are connected directly to the tower, while the operator is closer to the area.

Mammoet keeps discussing the other variations of such types of machinery and the application of these 2 models with their customers. There might be more additional modifications to the series.
