The authorities of the New Orleans Port announced a significant rise in cargo volumes. They informed that they accepted more breakbulk ships than ever. The amount of cargo reached 8.4 million in 2014. Compared to the previous years, the volumes appeared to be the largest since 2000. In comparison with 2013, the figures grew by 28%.
As the authorities say, it was a busy year for the port. It also denotes the growing success of their work. The volumes of breakbulk cargo also rose significantly. Compared to 2013, the figures increased by 52% totaling almost 3.8 tonnes.
As the CEO of the New Orleans Port claims, the figures will continue to grow because of new shippers and the thrift of the chemical industry.

The New Orleans Port’s a deep-draft facility, which is situated on the Lower Mississippi River. The port is multipurpose with the key orientation on the breakbulk and container loads. They also accept passenger ships. The average amount of cargo reaches about 90 million tonnes yearly. Together with the South Louisiana Port, they present one of the world largest port systems for both cargo tonnage and annual amounts of cargo.
The port works with various types of loads, such as:

- different manufactured products, etc.
Every year, they accept over 6,000 ships. The port is the most important hub for the waterway trading in America.
The facilities of the described port are always up-to-date as the authorities keep investing in its development in order to meet the needs of the customers. The port also has the modern equipment, such as multipurpose cranes and marshaling yards. The territory of cargo handling areas reaches about 204 hectares, which is enough for the cargo owners, shippers, and other customers.
The authorities plan to enlarge the facilities of the port by 2020 adding more territory and equipment. The key aim is the expansion of container terminal capacities in order to grow the container traffic. The cost of the planned projects totals over $1 billion.
